hmm.. lets see .. with only a week more to go , its high time I summarize this intern i did at Oregon State University. First project wise i gotto work with Prof. John Simonsen which helped me a lot in gaining some real research experience and working in his group i learned a lot.
Our Group consisted of Jeremiah Kelly one of the MS graduates working in the summers, he was my friend and guide throughout this project. Awesome guy , intelligent and helpful , i daresay he helped me a lot in the initial days and this project wouldnt have been completed if he wouldnt have helped me. Then comes Mellisa Gurney , who is nearing her Ph.D completion and hence extremely busy . She was the second morst knowledgeble person in our group after Dr. simonsen and so we used to go to her only when we had extreme difficulties. Then there was another under-grad student worker Joyey . Throughout the intern i didnt meet her , lol... as all under-grad students she was extremely ellusive to say the least.;) Throughout the intern i worked a regular 4 to 6 hours a day which was not much then 2 hours in gym then back to home. This was my schedule for the entire term.
Then coming back home it was lot of fun because I was sharing an apartment with 3 other Indian MS graduates. The Apartment was located at 21st Van Buren Avenue, Apt#3. It was quite near to the OSU campus so we could just walk by to the various departments. We had to share since the apartments are real costly so we helped each other out by sharing the cost. These three guys need special mission because i wouldnt have servived without them in US. they loaned me money (lol, i did the mistake of bringing only 3 00 $ with me , so let it be an advice for others , atleast being 1000$ with you in cash when you come to US :P), they helepd me settle in the local crowd, make loads of friends. ok here goes the description of these three unique persons. ;)
VIKAS SHILIMKAR - He hails from the state of Maharashtra and is doing Ph.D in Electronics Engineering. So he works in Kelley Institute Building in OSU, which is nearest to our Apartment . The good news is that he is getting married this December back in India , so as new responsibilities tend to change people's perceptions likewise he has become real "wise" in his expenditure aspect. lol.... Well he was the guy who first approached me through the Indian Students Association community of OSU. And usually handles the very debatable and controvertial Finance Aspect of the apartment. So in a way , what he considers " wise" and others consider "stringy" spebnding habits , tend to help us all keep our expenditures in cheque. Nature wise he is quite a friendly guy and really helpful when it matters. he has excellent qualities that one usually likes in a good son. He is very hard working , dedicated , honest , studious, trustworthy guy. Although he sometimes becomes fussy with the money-related matters but that is over-shadowed completely by his other helpful qualities.
RAMA GOUD - he is the dude of the group. More americanised than any other indian guy and with a smooth amrican accent(thanx to his many years working in Call centres and Sales in India) , he is doing MS in Industrial Engineering. But i'll say he is the one most difficult to tolerate than all others put together. haaaaaaaaaa.... he has many amazing qualities . he is a excellent sportsperson who has won national awards in rollerblades, represents his state in Lawn tenis Nationals and has a great muscular physique and is good at all sports. He has amazing communication skills and has also won the most outstanding Teaching Asiistant Award in whole OSU. But like he usually says he belongs to a family of Reporters hence many times I think he says things without thinking which in most cases results in people getting offended, leading huge "Mahabharats" . I seriously believe that if he sobers up a bit and controls his overly extroverted ways a bit he can be even more successful than he is now. Lots to say but it wouldnt be prudent for me to make them public .. lol..;)
SURAJ DARRA - Lol.. he is a funny guy . ha ha ha ... he was most nearer to me agewise so i was more closer to him than others i guess.. A real fun guy to be with he is doing his MS in Civil Engineering. I would say he was the most lazy one among us 2nd just to me in that aspect. lol.....His qualities would be ability to play XBox games throughout games .. sometimes even when he has fallen asleep midway.. i mean common how can anyway play while he is asleep , but yes Suraj can do it as rama and myself have witnessed manytimes. He is an excellent cook when he puts his mind to do it and we have really enjoyed his delicacies time and again. But i would say his greatest enemy is his bad habit to leave all work for the 11nth hour. The lazy bum that he is , he 'll while around playing games and sleeping throughout the week and work like crazy in the last day . And he becomes very irritating and is really unbearable at times. I mean he will then be also be prepared to fight for 1 minute wasted , completely fogetting that it was he himself that wasted his time away earlier. Another bad habit is his habit of goping back times to pass his turn to cook or clean . I mean he'll say that tyhat day in 1942 summer he had cleaned the house instead of vikas so he shouldnt do the cleaning now. lol.... but whatever his bad habits still he is an excellent friend at heart who is really helpful which makes everyone like him. :D
During my stay at Oregon my greatest gain was cooking. I started from a novice at cooking to now being able to make excellent biryanis , and mushroom masal and have also started experimenting with various ingredients. :D
Projectwise also i completed it quite satisfactorily and i got a good recommendation from my prof which 'll help me in the future.
On the whole this was quite a fun and successful intern and am quite happy and satisfied by how this has turn out. God Bless to all in my group and my roommatess ofcourse may they achieve success in their goals. :D
